Have you developed complications like Type 2 diabetes while taking the cholesterol drug Lipitor?
Lipitor is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor designed to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. However, there have been numerous complaints filed over the drug with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over complications like Type 2 diabetes, muscle damage and memory loss.
Due to the growing number of concerns over the product, in 2012, the FDA ordered Lipitor manufacturer Pfizer to change the label on the drug, and add a warning about increases in HbA1c and fasting serum glucose levels. While this was a step forward, many consumer advocates and attorneys feel like it was not adequate in addressing all concerns, as the drug has continually been marketed aggressively.
According to news reports, lawsuits across the country are raising concerns over the sale of the popular statin drug. WWSB-TV, a Florida news station, reported that scrutiny is beginning to mount over the warnings associated with Lipitor.
In the southwest Florida-area, one attorney told the station that hundreds of cases have been filed nationally that will be paired down in Multi-District Litigation (MDL).
What Can I Do If I Develop Diabetes While Taking Lipitor?
Diabetes causes complications that affect a person’s health and can reduce life expectancy. Do not become the victim of a drug manufacturer’s lack of care—if you suffer from diabetes because you took Lipitor, seek legal representation immediately.
