Have You Suffered Injuries Taking Lipitor? Pfizer Plans to Lower Costs

According to Bloomberg, Pfizer has announced that it will begin decreasing the costs for its brand-name cholesterol drug Lipitor.

The news outlet reported that the medication, which is the highest-selling prescription drug in the U.S., would be available for $30 or less per month for some customers, which is only slightly more than what users pay for generic versions of the drug.

According to Bloomberg, Pfizer plans to offer the drug at a discounted cost through its website to people who do not have insurance or are covered by Medicare or Affordable Care Act exchange plans.

What Can I Do If Lipitor Has Injured Me?

While this may sound like good news for some, it makes us uneasy. Lipitor has been linked to Type 2 diabetes in women for several years now.

The drug is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that works by preventing an enzyme in the liver from creating low-density lipids, and it has also been linked to cardiovascular disease.

Due to its risks, in 2011, the US Food and Drug Administration asked Pfizer to make labeling changes, which included words cautioning users about the potential for increased risks in glucose levels.

People should not have to suffer because a drug manufacturer is attempting to sell more products and generate more revenue. Diabetes causes multiple debilitating effects, and can greatly reduce someone’s life expectancy.
