According to the Madison-St. Clair Record, four men have filed $2 million lawsuits against Takeda Pharmaceuticals after they allegedly developed bladder cancer by taking Actos to treat Type 2 diabetes.
The Record reported that the plaintiffs, John McLane, David Steele, Gene Warren and Raul Watkins, said that they took Actos for more than 12 months without any warning that the medication allegedly increases the risk of bladder cancer.
The lawsuits were filed on October 18 in the Madison County Circuit Court. The lawsuits allege that Takeda was aware of the increased risk of cancer associated with Actos and failed to warn consumers when the plaintiffs began taking the drug.
After taking Actos, the plaintiffs were diagnosed with bladder cancer, and as a result, they now suffer from lower back and abdominal pain, frequent need to urinate, bowel problems and the loss of appetite and weight loss.
The lawsuit alleges “negligence, strict liability, negligent failure to warn, negligent design defect, negligence, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability and defective design.”
