Litigation regarding the anticlotting drug Pradaxa recently made headway for victims who experienced harmful Pradaxa side effects. In January 2013, Padraxa manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim filed a motion for a protective order from US District Court Judge David Herndon, who is overseeing multidistrict litigation (MDL) for the Southern District of Illinois. The protective order sought to potentially limit information being introduced into the litigation regarding the findings of past drug lawsuits also involving this manufacturer.
Judge Herndon denied the request, stating that plaintiffs of the current Pradaxa lawsuit have the right to review legal documents and reports about Boehringer Ingelheim’s possibly harmful marketing practices.
This is the first step for victims to unveil the company’s alleged unlawful practices, including a “whistleblower” lawsuit filed by a former employee of the drug manufacturer or any “kickbacks” the drug company has paid to doctors for prescribing Pradaxa.
Claims against Pradaxa
Pradaxa is a blood-thinning medication prescribed to many patients with atrial fibrillation in order to reduce the risk of blood clots and strokes. Unfortunately, a serious and oftentimes fatal bleeding can occur. It is unjust that the manufacturer continues to sell and profit from this drug while patients are experiencing such severe negative side effects.
