The Ohio law firm of Zoll & Kranz, LLC has previously investigated claims relating to the prescription drug Vioxx, also known as Refecoxib. Vioxx is the brand name for the drug Refecoxib, which is a Cox-2 inhibitor. Its drug manufacturer, Merck & Co., voluntarily drug recalled Vioxx from the market in September 2004 due to significant safety concerns of patients experiencing an increased risk of cardiovascular events while using the dangerous drug.
Our multidistrict litigation (MDL) and class action lawyers are available to discuss your potential Vioxx lawsuit or other medication lawsuit if an unsafe drug or defective medical device caused you or someone you love serious personal injuries. To learn more about how we can help victims of Vioxx file Vioxx lawsuits or how we may be able to assist you, call today.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Vioxx in May 1999 for use in reducing pain and inflammation from osteoarthritis, acute pain in adults and for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome. The FDA later expanded its approval of Vioxx to include treatment for rheumatoid arthritis in both adults and children.
For over five years, Merck & Co. engaged in one of the largest sampling programs ever. The drug company dedicated millions of dollars to direct marketing and advertising in order to secure a competitive market share. As of 2003, Merck & Co. reported approximately $2.5 billion in sales and about 25 million Americans receiving Vioxx prescriptions.
On September 30, 2004, Merck & Co. announced the voluntary drug recall withdrawal of Vioxx from the worldwide market. This action was due to safety concerns of an increased risk of individuals suffering from serious cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes.
Our drug injury firm believes that this recall was long overdue, with more than 50,000 individuals sustaining fatal injuries and suffering wrongful deaths during the five years the dangerous drug was available on the market.
Vioxx lawsuit cases filed in federal courts across the country received consolidation as multidistrict litigation for discovery purposes. The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation granted MDL status to both currently pending and future Vioxx lawsuit claims, assigning the cases to Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans.
The Ohio law firm of Zoll & Kranz based in Toledo became actively involved in this MDL, where we represented many clients and helped pursue legal justice against Merck & Co. for personal injury compensation and wrongful death damages.
Our product liability firm keeps records of Vioxx trial updates throughout the MDL process, and makes these documents available online for individuals wanting information about the Vioxx drug lawsuit:
